His name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was so loved and liked by Indian people that they used to call him Bapu (father) No doubt that he was such caring, loving and devoted leader who deserved to be called father of nation. He was also called Mahatma (great soul) in recognition of his high character and nice personality. He was born in 1869. After getting education he entered in politics with the philosophy of non violation. After returning from Africa, Gandhi actively participated in politics. In 1919 , British troops opened fire on big mob at Jalianwala Bagh Amritsar who were peaceful and unarmed. This resulted the large number of death toll and causalities. Gandhi responded by calling a boycott, civil and disobedience movement against British to put pressure on British for independence of India. In 1922 he said “noncooperation is not a passive state it is an intensely active state more active than violence”. This prominent leader was assassinated by Nathuram Godasay in 1948.
